This is the epic moment a lion roared directly into a safari jeep, leaving one tourist suitably stunned.

Newton Mulenga was leading a tour through Busanga Plains, Zambia, when a majestic male – known locally as Mohawk – leapt over a small stream.

Heartstopping footage captured the moment the lion – fresh off defeating a rival – announced his dominance on the plains while heading straight towards Newton.

Continuing to roar, Mohawk walked right next to the jeep, leaving one woman onboard suitably impressed by the lion’s powerful call.

“This was a celebratory territorial roar after having fought off another male in the area.

“We’ve built a good relationship with these lions, they’re quite comfortable with us being around. We make sure we’re silent so we respect their space.

“I have been a guide in Busanga for more than 15 years and my father has done the same job. I love sharing my backyard with the world.”
