Two lions ambushed unsuspecting hyenas snoozing under a tree.

Hamza Visram was leading a tour through the Serengeti National Park, Tanzania, when six hyenas tried to relax in the shade.

Dramatic footage captured the moment two big cats launched a surprise assault, leaping on top of one of the unlucky hyenas.

It seemingly managed to escape before the second lion chased it down and tackled it to the ground again.

“The lions saw the hyenas from a distance and then began to stalk them.

Hamza said: “This was a simple show of dominance as the hyenas were caught unaware resting in the shade.

“While I’ve seen lions kill hyenas when they try to steal a kill, what I witnessed that day was different and I couldn’t believe what happened.

“The lions saw the hyenas from a distance and then began to stalk them, I think the lions were looking for shade and happened to find the hyenas there.”
