THIS ANACONDA DON’T WANT NONE: JAGUAR LEAPS ON SWIMMING ANACONDA AND SNATCHES GIANT SNAKE IN JAWS

1–2 minutes

A quick-thinking jaguar leapt on top of a swimming anaconda and dragged the giant snake from the water between its powerful jaws.

Paulo Boute, 58, was leading a tour through the Pantanal, Brazil, when he spotted a predator scouring along the banks of the river.

Incredible footage shows the jaguar bury its face into the water and snatch the two-metre-long anaconda between its teeth before batting it back down with a firm paw.

Despite the struggling snake trying to swim away, the big cat pinned it into the sand before grabbing it again in its jaws and leaping up the bank and away into the rainforest.

Paulo said: “I was very excited. I have been doing this job for almost 40 years and it was my very first time seeing a jaguar catch an anaconda. I knew that it was not an everyday event.

“The fight was over as quickly as it started because the jaguar took the anaconda by surprise. The jaguar took the snake off into the bush at the top of the river bank.

“My dad was from Russia and mum was from Ukraine so they were quick to instil in me how special Brazilian wildlife is.

“Our backyard was full of trees with fruits attracting lots of birds and at the age of 17 I moved to Mato Grosso to start working as a tour guide in the Pantanal.

“Now I have more than four decades of field experience and have led more than a thousand trips.”
